THE 21PIRATES
The 21 pirates team is always looking for new ways to work closely with companies and schools to bring new opportunities to creative individuals' and communities to help get their talent recognised. by decorating fish scales based on the theme
of Film, Comics and Video-Game crossover Art.
FISH SCALES
Each fish scale is made out of MDF and decorated using different medias like paint, pens, charcoal etc then attached to the final ship once completed and displayed at the event.
I had used the Disney xd program called Gravity Falls as I always used to watch it with my brother and I chose to do Marvel specifically the Marvel Infinity war poster style. But I had used the original characters from Gravity Falls but turned into the serious realistic Marvel characters.
In my work I used different Marvel & DC characters, I used characters like Iron Man, Green Arrow & Batwoman but I also put in some extra little details that represent other characters like, captain America’s Shield & Thors Hammer.
Adventures of Rick and Morty I used the tv show Rick and Morty and the comic Adventure Time, which is also a tv show. I developed my drawing skills a little more and my placement work I looked at the Adventure Time comic because Rick and Morty and Adventure Time have similar art works.
I combined characters and a scene from the video game series ‘Borderlands’ and characters from the TV show ‘FRIENDS’. I developed my skills with colour while making this piece since I have learnt that I need to focus more on contrast so my future pieces are clearly visible from a distance.
I have used Pac Man and Mario, which are two very popular video games from the 1980’s. I got to experiment with 3D design for this piece which I haven't done very often, I’m combining it with acrylic paint so it will be mixed media which I always find it fun to work with. I got my inspiration from looking at old games such as Legend of Zelda, Kirby and Sonic the Hedgehog. I really enjoyed the decision making of what I was going to combine TV shows.
I used a combination of Skyrim and Fallout 3, one side features the daedric armour from Skyrim and the other the brotherhood of steel power armour from Fallout 3.
Timmy, Trixie and AJ from the Fairly Odd Parents. Suicide Squad Poster
I'M A WIZARD! To create my fish scale i decided to merge Family Guy and Harry Potter. I decided to merge these two themes as I believed together they would look cool.
Star Wars and The Simpsons. Star Wars and The Simpsons. To create my comic character, I used Homer as the body with features of Yoda. For inspiration I looked at images from the internet of different Star Wars action film shots, as I wanted to incorporate elements of using the out of space background within my design.
Aladin and Doramemon For my characters I chose 5 main characters for both movie and cartoon and mixed them with each other such as: Doramemon with genie Aladdin with Nobita Jasmine with Shizuka Sunao with Jafar Takeshi with the suttan
Invading Nightmares I used the characters from Invader Zim as the characters from little nightmares: Zim (Six), Gir (Nome), and Gaz (The Lady) What area of the project did you enjoy and why? I enjoyed thinking about how the Invader Zim characters would look if they were to adapt to the storyline of Little nightmares. It was interesting to think about what scene to create for the characters that I had chosen, and the show of perspective of how small Six is in the game.
Iron Bender Which film, video game or comic characters or scene did you use to create your work: I used the movie ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and then the TV series Futurama. I merged Bender together with a look of a zombie. My original idea was to merge it with the mascot from Iron Maiden but I scrapped that idea and changed it to one I have done now. What practical skills have you developed during the project: I haven’t really developed any I have just used my original skills that I always had.
This work has been created by Sandwell College students studying in their Second Year of the BTEC Art and Design Extended Diploma, Level 3. They really embraced researching and producing creative work in response to the21pirates creative brief. Being a part of an external project gave them the opportunity to gain real-world experience; meeting professional artists, working to a live brief and learning more about the Creative Industries, all great preparation for going on to either further studies at University in September or into the workplace. It's a brilliant platform to be able to showcase their creative ideas and we hope you enjoy looking at all their designs as much as they enjoyed creating them.
